Social media collectively embraced the rainbow in June, with users and brands alike chiming in to celebrate Pride Month, honoring the 1969 Stonewall riots. While the Internet was attempting to be inclusive overall, users were quick to call out big businesses indulging in rainbow capitalism and co-opting on Pride Month.

Social users were vocal this month about corporate-pride tie-ins, calling out any brand that had reversed its stance on acceptance or did nothing for LGBTQIAP+ inclusion other than using rainbow colors in their logo. However, there were inclusive brands that tried to do more for the queer community by donating to charities and causes.

Beauty retailer—the perfect ally

Morphe Brushes did Pride right by introducing a commemorative collection and donating all the proceeds from it to The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth. This was Morphe Brush’s second most engaging tweet, closely following their top tweet where the same Live In Color collection was given away in a sweepstakes contest.

In addition to being great allies to the LGBTQ movement, here are other ways in which brands won on social last month.

Bow to our feline overlords

We’re all about the unusual days here at Unmetric. Our pals at Facebook celebrated Cat World Domination Day with a post pushing their new focus on Groups. This promoted post received a staggering 3 million in estimated reach and 6.5 million in estimated impressions.

Capture hearts with Koala-ty videos

Another brand, another animal! This time, Australia.com published a 4-minute-long heartwarming video of koalas, garnering nearly 95K interactions. This video was Australia.com’s most engaging post of June 2019.

Where are the fireworks?

If you’ve been to Epcot, you’ve probably seen (and promptly fallen in love with) IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Recently, Disney announced the closing date for the attraction, breaking the hearts of Epcot fans all over. Joining in on the public grieving was Orlando International Airport with this tweet, their third most engaging tweet in June 2019.

Could Primark BE any more awesome?

It hasn’t been our week, our month, or even our year, but this news from Primark made the Friends fans of Unmetric scream in delight. With over 100K interactions, this post was Primark’s most engaging post of June 2019.

AirDrop right into your heart

New Balance Canada has a few tricks up its sleeve during the Toronto Raptors Parade, by promising that NBA powerhouse Kawhi Leonard would be AirDropping a special message to iPhone users with the functionality on. This tweet was the second most engaging of all of New Balance’s June 2019 tweets.

Overall, June was filled with a lot of Pride posts, interesting contests, pop culture references, and more. Once again, these posts are a goldmine of content inspiration that just might drive your own creative briefs!
