Onam is a popular festival in India celebrating the arrival of the harvest season. The ten-day-long festival provides a wonderful opportunity for brands to strike a chord with their audience through relevant content.
Last year 993 brands were found to be posting Onam greetings. This earned them over 430,832 interactions. However, the volume of posts around Onam saw a dip in 2018 across all the social networks. The volume of posts on Facebook dropped by 44% in 2018 when compared to 2017.
Facebook was the most preferred social network for brands.
In 2018, brands on Facebook received over 2x more interactions than on Instagram and 256x more interactions than on Twitter.
We used Discover, the world’s largest branded content catalog, to see what brands in India have done in the past for their Onam social media campaigns.
In addition to running the usual campaigns, some brands also focused their marketing efforts on social causes. In 2018, Kerala, the state where Onam is predominantly celebrated, was struck by flash floods and brands quickly adapted by using their campaigns to both pray for and encourage fans to donate funds to help Kerala bounce back faster.
Here’s a list which covers the best engaging Onam social media posts published by brands in 2018:
