Social media is always abuzz with something or the other and last month was no exception. August was a month of back to school blues, remorse over Spider-Man leaving the MCU and adorable images of doggos taking over our social feed. Never ones to let such talking points go by, savvy brands jumped in with their banter and even went the extra mile to put their own spin on those trends.

Here are a few posts from August that stood out to us while curating #UnmetricBrandStars.

Oh Spidey, not again!

Yup, Spider-Man is no more part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! While he’s still reeling from the loss of Tony Stark, Disney and Sony decided now would be the right time to dispute over who gets to have him. This certainly did not bode well with the fans and the hashtag #SaveSpiderMan was making the rounds on Twitter. Brands, being brands, had to have a say on this too. This topical post from Durex earned tons of engagement on Facebook, over 65K interactions.

And it’s that time of the year again!

While many back-to-school posts and campaigns were targeted at students, this one from We Are Teachers stood out from the rest. Looks like teachers aren’t big fans of going back to school either.

Unity Bar for the win!

India celebrated its 73rd Independence day last month which called for tons of giveaways, grand sales, and seasonal posts from brands. But Cadbury stood out from the rest and hit a six (that’s a cricket reference!) with their Independence Day campaign. The brand introduced a limited edition unity bar with dark, blended, milk and white chocolate all under one wrap symbolizing the country’s diverse culture.

Dogs, dogs, and yep, more dogs

What do we do when there is a dedicated day to celebrate the existence of these pawsome creatures? Glorify them! And that’s exactly what brands did. This #InternationalDogDay themed tweet from FedExEurope was just pawfect!

When Fall arrived a tad bit early

For Starbucks, Fall arrived a little sooner than it did for the others. Either that or they were just too excited to tweet about their best selling Fall drink—the pumpkin spice latte!

In all, it was a drama-filled, sassy month on social. To discover such engaging posts within a day or two of them being published, check out #UnmetricBrandStars, a daily feature on Unmetric’s social channels, where brands with engaging content are featured.
